A Dozen Americans

It has been 40 years since man last stepped on the moon. 14th December 1972 was the date when Eugene Cernan and Harisson Schmitt left the moon and started their 5 day journey back to Earth.

The most famous moon landing was in 1969 when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first men set foot on the surface. After their Apollo11 mission, a further ten people, all American, have walked on the moon in the short space of three and a half years.

Cernan and Schmitt, were not only the last people to set foot on the moon, the Apollo 17 mission is the most recent manned vessel to go beyond low Earth orbit.
